Part 9 - Who Else Is Worthy
What happens when heaven itself asks a question and falls silent waiting for an answer? That is exactly the scene that unfolds in Revelation chapter 5, and it is one of the most dramatic and soul-stirring moments in all of Scripture. A scroll sealed with seven seals sits in the right hand of the One on the throne, and a mighty angel calls out across all of creation asking who is worthy to open it. The silence is deafening. No prophet, no king, no wise man, no human being who has ever drawn breath steps forward. The weight of that moment is so heavy that John weeps bitterly, because if no one is worthy, what happens to justice, to hope, to God's plan for all of human history? And then everything changes. The Lion of the tribe of Judah, the Root of David, steps forward, and he appears not as a conquering warrior but as a Lamb bearing the marks of sacrifice. This is the paradox at the heart of the gospel: the Lion conquered by becoming the Lamb. He did not avoid the cross. He was born for it. His victory over death, sin, and the grave is not just his victory. It becomes ours the moment we place our faith in him. The tears of despair in Revelation 5 give way to thunderous, unending praise from millions of angels and every creature in creation. That same shift from weeping to worship is available to every one of us today, no matter what we are walking through.
