Part 8 - The Throne Is Still Occupied
When turbulence hits our lives, the first instinct is to look around at the chaos and ask, 'Who is in control?' Revelation chapter 4 answers that question with stunning clarity. John is caught up in a vision and sees a throne in heaven, occupied, steady, and surrounded by worship. This is not a picture of a God who is wringing His hands or pacing the floor. It is a picture of sovereign authority at rest. The throne represents everything we need to know when life feels like it is spinning out of control: God has not stepped away, He has not been voted out, and He is not on a break. The same vision given to John in Revelation echoes a vision given to the prophet Isaiah some 800 years earlier in Isaiah chapter 6, where Isaiah saw the Lord seated on a lofty throne with the train of His robe filling the temple. Two prophets, centuries apart, saw the same unshakeable truth. Heaven's song has not changed. The living creatures around the throne do not cry out about God's power or His success. They cry out about His holiness, repeating it three times as described in Revelation 4:8, signifying that He is altogether separate, altogether unlike anything or anyone else. For us, this is not just theology. It is the anchor we need when our circumstances shift, when health crises come, when financial uncertainty looms, or when the world around us feels unstable. The throne is still occupied, and that changes everything.
