Part 1 - Take it up a Notch
Have we settled into spiritual cruise control, coasting on a decision we made years ago without continuing to grow? This powerful message challenges us to examine whether we're truly building on our foundation of faith or simply maintaining the bare minimum. Drawing from 2 Peter 1:3-8, we're reminded that God has already given us everything we need for godly living—His Word, His Spirit, His promises, and His power. The question isn't whether we have enough resources, but whether we're using what we've been given. Like someone who buys a gym membership but never works out, many of us possess all the tools for spiritual growth yet remain unchanged. The passage calls us to make every effort to add to our faith: moral excellence, knowledge, self-control, perseverance, godliness, brotherly affection, and love. These aren't separate compartments but building blocks that stack upon each other, each one supporting the next. We're challenged to ask ourselves: Where do we need to step it up a notch? Perhaps it's opening our Bible more consistently, serving in a ministry, sharing the gospel with neighbors, or simply refusing to give God our leftovers. The beauty of this message is that a notch isn't dramatic—it's the small adjustment on a stove that turns lukewarm water into boiling water. Small acts of obedience can redirect entire lives. When we remember what Christ did on the cross, how can we offer anything less than our best?
