Part 2 - Take it up a Notch
Life often feels like an escalator—we're moving, but are we really growing? This powerful message from 2 Peter 1 challenges us to examine whether we're truly advancing in our faith or just going through the motions. The apostle Peter reminds us that God has already given us everything we need for a godly life: His divine power, precious promises, and new life in Christ. But here's the catch—we're called to add to what we've received. We're meant to supplement our faith with goodness, knowledge, self-control, endurance, godliness, brotherly affection, and sacrificial love. This isn't about earning salvation; it's about making our salvation count. The sobering reality is that we can be saved and still live unproductive lives. We can go to heaven but fail to impact our families, neighbors, or communities. Growth keeps us from becoming spiritually useless, while stagnation makes us short-sighted—able to see temporary pleasures but blind to eternal consequences. When we forget what Christ saved us from, grace becomes familiar instead of amazing. But when we live in the wonder of our redemption, remembering that we deserve hell but have been given heaven, serving becomes natural. The call isn't to be famous but faithful, not flashy but fruitful. We get one life, one generation to make it count for the glory of God.
