Eternal Freedom

May 24, 2026    Rodney Harbison

This powerful message challenges us to move beyond celebrating temporal freedoms and embrace the eternal freedom that comes only through Christ. Drawing from 1 John 3, we're reminded that God's love is bestowed upon us without expectation—we are called children of God not through our merit, but through His sacrificial love. The sermon confronts a vital question: how can we claim Christ abides in us if we possess resources yet withhold them from brothers and sisters in need? We're called to love not just in words, but in deeds and truth. The white flag becomes a profound symbol throughout this message—not just for waving in celebration, but for surrender. What barriers are we holding onto that prevent us from demonstrating Christ-like love? Perhaps it's past hurts, unforgiveness, anxiety, or the wounds inflicted by others. As we prepare to move into a new season and location, we're invited to lay down these strangleholds and exercise unwavering faith. The freedom Christ offers isn't permission to indulge our flesh, but power to overcome it. This Memorial Day reflection reminds us that while soldiers died for a cause, Christ died knowing each of us by name—and He'd do it again. The question becomes: will we surrender what's blocking us from living out the agape love that marks us as His disciples?
