Week 1 - The road to Easter

Mar 15, 2026    Lead Pastor Mike Dorough

This powerful message reminds us that Easter hope doesn't begin at the empty tomb—it starts in the broken places of our lives. Drawing from Luke 7:12-14, we encounter Jesus meeting a funeral procession in the village of Nain, where a widow has lost her only son. What makes this story remarkable is that the widow never called out to Jesus, never prayed for help—yet Jesus saw her pain and stopped the funeral anyway. This teaches us something profound: even when we're too broken to pray, too hurt to reach out, Jesus steps into our grief. The Holy Spirit intercedes for us with groanings that cannot be expressed in words. We learn about the Japanese art of kintsugi, where broken pottery is repaired with gold, making the cracks beautiful rather than hiding them. This becomes a powerful metaphor for how Christ works in our lives—He doesn't discard our broken pieces but fills the cracks with His precious blood, creating something more beautiful than before. The message challenges us to bring our shattered dreams, our pain, our disappointments to the One who transforms funeral processions into resurrection stories. Romans 8:28 becomes our life preserver, reminding us that God works all things together for good for those who love Him. We're invited to stop wallowing in self-pity and hear Jesus say to our dead situations: 'Get up!' This is resurrection hope that begins right now, in the middle of our mess.
